Presenting the Paretz branch
Working where King Friedrich Wilhelm III and his wife, Queen Luise, once spent their summers –
This is the privilege enjoyed by Dr. Petra Zelfel, head of our branch in Paretz, west of Berlin. Opened in 2001 as the Museum of the Foundation of Prussian palaces and Gardens in Berlin-Brandenburg, Paretz Palace, built near the Havel in 1800, is seen as the ideal of a picturesque country estate today. The historical wallpaper of the royal apartments is particularly worth seeing. And what is especially remarkable is that Friedrich Wilhelm III had the estate laid out as a “model village” in the English style as an example of contemporary, thrifty, functional, agricultural architecture in his then somewhat economically weak kingdom.
